New York State Senate adjourns without marriage vote

After more than seven hours, the New York State Senate adjourned its special session without a vote on a bill that would extend marriage to same-sex couples.

It remains unclear as to whether lawmakers will even allow proposed legislation to go to the Senate floor for a vote. Governor David Paterson has said he plans to call for another special legislative session early next week.
